from the Journal of Mental Health Research in Intellectual Disabilities
on the XI International Congress of the European Association for Mental Health in Intellectual Disability - Better Mental Health for People with Intellectual Disability
(Luxembourg, September 21-23 2017)
Edited by Professor Angela Hassiotis
Guest Editors: Marco O. Bertelli, Carlo Schuengel, and Germain Weber.
Special issue aims and scope
We are seeking papers that cover innovation and new insight in diagnosis, treatment and prognostic factors for mental health issues across intellectual and developmental disabilities. They can refer to the whole life-span, with a preference for adulthood and ageing. Paper topics cannot exclusively address autism spectrum disorder, but may include it.
Even if mentioned in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, access to mental health services for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities is still not guaranteed in most European countries. Like the rest of the population, the mental health of people with intellectual disabilities is best understood in a much wider context of their general well-being, their supports and networks, their family and social setting and the broader aspects of the society that have significant impacts on their health and health inequalities.
The special issue will be published on September 2017, in conjunction with the XI International Congress of the European Association for Mental Health in Intellectual Disability - Better Mental Health for People with Intellectual Disability.
Preferred Topics include:
1. Challenging behaviour
2. Mental illness
Manuscripts may be:
Systematic reviews, evaluation of interventions or service models, diagnostic processes or instruments, reflections on international collaborative work on tackling mental illness in people with intellectual developmental disorders.
Submissions will be subject to peer review and other editorial processes, as usual. Information on the submission process can be found at the journal website http://www.tandfonline.com/toc/umid20/current
Deadlines and submission details:
Submissions can start immediately and up to 15 June 2017.
